I’m on a bit of a Japanese Giant Monster Movie kick at the moment. In fact, as I type this, I’m watching the classic Daiei flick Gamera vs. Guiron (aka Attack Of The Monsters.) I probably should be watching a Godzilla movie instead, but I like Gamera too, despite it’s more child friendly material.
Anyway, I just recently bought three new Godzilla movies on DVD online. My collection is ALMOST complete. All I need is Destroy All Monsters and I’ll be set!
Anyhoo… I decided that, just for shits and giggles, I’d share my list of Giant Monster Movies that I own. So here goes.

Gappa: The Triphibian Monster (aka Monster From A Prehistoric Planet)
Rodan (Looking to buy a better release.)
The Host
Rebirth Of Mothra III (Homemade copy. Official release not available.)
Reptilicus (Homemade copy. Looking to buy official release.)
Thunder Of Gigantic Serpent (Homemade copy. Official release not available.)
There you have it. Unless I’ve overlooked any, that is all of my giant monster movies that I own. Now, I’ll honest… not all of them can really be classified as “Kaiju” movies. Though if you do a direct translation from the original Japanese, Kaiju translates to “Strange Beast” while Daikaiju translates to “Giant Monster.” So I guess all of these actually do qualify, whether they’re Japanese rubber suit monsters or otherwise. Though, I will say that 20 Million Miles To Earth and The Giant Gila Monster are questionable. Some might even say that The Host and Cloverfield may not really qualify. But It’s all semantics.
Now then… just to let the shits and giggles continue. Here’s a list of some Kaiju movies that I don’t own but would love to have.
Kaiju Movies I Don’t Own
Destroy All Monsters
Gamera vs. Barugon (aka War Of The Monsters)
Gamera vs. Gyaos (aka Return Of The Giant Monsters)
Gamera 3: Awakening Of Irys
Gamera The Brave
King Kong Lives
Mothra
Rebirth Of Mothra
Rebirth Of Mothra II
War Of The Gargantuas
The Mysterians
Atragon
Varan The Unbelievable
The X From Outer Space
The Monster X Strikes Back
The Giant Behemoth
The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms
Gorgo
Pulgasari
Yonggary: Monster From The Deep
Yonggary
Yamato Takeru (aka Orochi The Eight-Headed Dragon)
Space Amoeba
I am definitely sure there are way more movies that I haven’t mentioned here that I would absolutely love to own. For now though, I’d say this is enough. If there are any giant monster movies (Japanese or otherwise) that you can think of that I ought to add to my search list, do let me know. If by some unlikely chance you’d like to donate to the collection (either by purchasing one of these movies or by finding somewhere where I can buy some of these) please feel free and I’ll gladly accept them.
I friggin’ love Kaiju movies. That’s probably obvious. I just wanted to get that out there. I’m not really sure what the point to all this was, but I guess I’m just geeking out at the moment.
Oh! And one last thought. The upcoming Legendary Pictures Godzilla relaunch is something I am looking forward to. Even if it’s bad. My standards are pretty low. It only has one thing it has to achieve to be in my good graces. I must be better than Roland Emmerich’s 1998 attempt at a Godzilla flick. If it does that, I’ll accept it into the Godzilla Pantheon.
Kaiju. The best things in life are gigantic and destroy cities.
